The section of the min Alpine ridge running from Central Switzerland just west of Engelberg past Bern and down towards Wallis is known as Berner Oberland. It contains many picture postcard towns most of them with a nearby ski lift. The town of Interlaken famous for its adventure sports and Lauterbrunnen famous for base jumping are all in this region. The ski resorts of Meiringen-Hasliberg, Grindelwald, Gstaad and Mürren are all to be found in the Berner Oberland.
