The Jungfraujoch (3454m) is one of the classic tourist destinations in Switzerland. Most people arrive by train which travels through the north face of the Eiger and return by the same route. We will take the train up and enjoy the views from the lookout points in the Eiger, but once at the Jungfraujoch we will leave the tourists behind with our Mountain Guide hike over the largest glacier in the Alps (Aletsch Glacier) to the Concordia Platz and ascend to the Concordia Hut (2850m) where we will overnight.

On the second morning, we will continue our glacier hike to over the Aletsch glacier to Märjelesee (Which some of us know best from bike tours) and on to Fiescheralp where we will take the cable car to the valley and return home.

Who is this tour for?
This tour is for anyone who wants to get up close and personal with the glacier world. We will spend two days walking over the glacier and in high Alpine Terrain. You do not need any special Alpine skills, but you do need to be sure-footed and fit enough to walk all day at times uphill with a pace of about 300 vertical metres per hour. Anyone who hikes for a number of hours on a semi-regular basis should be able to participate in this tour. At the end of day one, there are almost 500 steps up to the hut from the glacier too. (Count them, we got between 467 and 480 the last time!)

Some of the steps up to the Concordia Hut

While no specific Alpine skills are required, you will need to walk roped up for safety reasons or you may need to use crampons when walking on the ice to ensure a secure foothold.

Please note, due to the amount of snow we had this winter it might be necessary to have snowshoes with you for this tour. We will let you know this in the weeks running up to the tour.

395 CHF
