Event Type

This course will give you your first taste in high alpine mountaineering and conditions allowing, your first ascent of an easy 4000m mountain. (Allalinhorn)

Aim:
To gain confidence with equipment required to travel on a glacier and climb your first mountain over 4000m.

Content:
On an easy tour, you will learn the correct use of Crampons and Ice Axe along with how to conduct yourself on a rope while travelling over glaciers. This course is intended as the first step for those who would like to learn how to autonomously conduct glacier and high alpine tours without the support of a mountain guide. (We are planning further courses/tours to deepen this knowledge over the course of the summer)

Day 1:
Meet in Saas-Fee and travel with the cable car to Felskinn (2989) and then walk to the Britannia hut. Here we will do training on the Chessjen Glacier with our equipment.

Day 2:
Training tour (weather and conditions permitting) from Mittelallalin to the Allalinhorn (4027m). In the event of poor conditions, further training will be done in the area.

Max No. of Participants:
6

Location:
Saas-Fee Region

Weekend Cost:
495CHF

Payment:
Payment is due at the time of registration. You will receive an email with payment details as soon as you register for the event.

Refund Policy:
As we have taken a firm booking on the number of attendees the course fee is non-refundable. However, your place on the course is interchangeable. If for some reason you can’t attend the course we will offer your place to the next person on the waiting list. Once this person has confirmed their place and paid their deposit I will return your fee. I can only return the fee if your place on the course is filled by another participant.

We recommend that you purchase cancellation insurance. This is available from most of the main insurance companies or may already be included in your travel insurance.

What is included:
• Mountain Guides and training
• Overnight accommodation (Saturday night)
• Evening meal and Breakfast

NB: In the event of the weather conditions being too bad in the planned area the weekend may be moved to a different resort. If this happens we may have to stay in a hotel rather than the SAC Hut. This will result in a small increased cost for the difference between the overnight in the hut and the overnight in a hotel. This is a worst-case scenario event, but if it happens this can not be avoided.

What is not included:
• Transport to and from Saas-Fee
• Lift Tickets

Required Equipment:
• Rope (3mm, 1.5m and 2.5m)
• Crampon suitable mountaineering boots

This equipment can be rented from Ruedi Bergsport in Zurich.
